studio objects: woven wall hanging
December 11, 2020
This is part of an occasional series about objects that live in my studio.
So this made from the actual acrylic that was used on Passage–which there are some pictures of around the studio. That was the 2011 temporary installation where a bridge was wrapped near St Peter, just for 3 months in the fall.
Afterwards, I found a group of textile artists in St Peter, just an informal group of women who met monthly and just made all kinds of projects and shared ideas. And I approached them and asked them to take this tons of fiber–tons of this stuff–and do something with it. We organized a show [a previous blog post about the art show is here] in St Peter, at the St Peter Art Center, after about a year of them playing around with it, just making all kinds of things–art, functional things–and so this is one of the pieces. It was my favorite. It just seemed like the spirit of the bridge to have some of these dangly things on the side, and some of them actually woven and I really–I love that thing. It doesn’t have a title or anything, but it’s just so awesome. And the fiber is used in different ways–it’s tight and then it’s loose and it’s dangling and it’s draping and so… It’s just this abstract hanging, this wall hanging, I just really love it.
