Historic wrought iron bridge, acrylic fiber

Commissioned by Minnesota State Arts Board

Description:

Passage utilized an 1875 wrought-iron bridge for a temporary artistic intervention. The historic structure was transformed by wrapping over 30,000 feet of fiber braid through the truss across bridge’s length.  The bridge remained passable to the public throughout the entire installation process. The fiber bands vibrated in the breeze, giving the bridge an electric quality. The installation took advantage of the daylight conditions, breeze, and rural landscape intended to heighten viewers’ perceptions of the existing landscape. The installation was timed to coincide with fall color and was de-installed after the first snow of the season.
