leftover materials
March 27, 2020
What happens to leftover materials, like fiber? Sometimes they get used for other projects. I’m also donating a bunch of it to a place in San Diego that goes into schools and does art, just to have a use for it.
In the case of the bridge, that was part of the project, that it would be made into something else by other people. I took the material down–it was the winter, so it was very cold–and I put the material, unsorted and unspooled, into big garbage bags. I had already located a group of women in St. Peter who met regularly to knit and do all kinds of textiles, and we had already talked about turning these things into whatever they wanted to turn them into.Â
And then we had a show in St Peter at the little art center there of all these creations. And it was pretty awesome to see what they came up with–abstract things, shoes, sweaters, bags, pillows…
There was a wall hanging that was my favorite. I offered to buy it, but she gave it to me. It’s still hanging in my office.
