Spring Crossing
2014
Scottsdale, AZ
Steel cable, acrylic fiber
Commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art
Description:
Utilizing the steel canopy of the Marshall Street pedestrian bridge as a framework, I worked with a local team to wrap approximately 11 miles of acrylic fiber to the structure. Part of the Scottsdale Canal Convergence outdoor temporary public art exhibition, Spring Crossing was inspired by the vivid colors associated with spring in the Sonoran Desert, and the importance that water plays in this harsh environment. The installation remained in place for two weeks and provided unexpected shade and shadows. At the close of the installation, the fiber was collected and re-purposed in an exhibition entitled, Eleven Miles of Color. Local artists were selected and given access to the fiber to create new artworks.
