Prairie Roots
2018
Red Baron Arena & Expo Center, Marshall, MN
32’ diameter x18’
Painted steel, concrete, limestone, stainless steel, landscaping
Commissioned by City of Marshall, MN
Description:
Inspired by the prairie grasses native to the region and the hockey games within the arena, the sculpture is a gathering place on the prairie, like the city itself. Each of the four faces of the steel poles is painted with a different color inspired by the prairie sunlight at different seasons. Polished stainless steel finials cause the accent lighting to disperse, while recalling the form of the hockey sticks. Within the field of narrow steel poles, a seating area frames a stainless steel shape of the Redwood River, cast into the concrete.
