Description:
Everywhere I looked in Lancaster, I found arches: on the facade of the historic downtown market; in passageways between row houses; in the meanders of the Conestoga River; and in the hoop-like frames of the pioneer wagons of the same name, which were invented here. Inspired by these simple and universal forms, I wanted the sculpture to be an iconic gateway for a small, revitalized urban park in an underserved neighborhood. The individually-formed arches frame views to the neighborhood beyond and create a portal for games and discovery.
