new stepping stones
October 23, 2020
This is part of an occasional series about objects that live in my studio. Well, technically, these are outside of my studio…
The path out to the office is important, because that’s my daily commute.
So these were some leftovers from Collection Point, and Hans had them at his studio. We made extras just in case. And nobody had any use for them. He was going to just throw them out, and it was hard to throw them out, so I put them here. And this is the new commute to the office.
It’s just kind of a design element in the yard, and it makes you pay attention. You can’t just mindlessly walk over them; you have to actually think about where you’re going to step, which is awkward at first, but it kind of wakes you up. I like it. It changes your consciousness.
I love having them here. I love seeing them. I love it that the recycling is right over there, ten feet away, and that the recycling guys come by every Tuesday. I’m going to point it out to them, because I’m sure they don’t put it together that these are actually the lids. I like the color, I like the weirdness of the whole thing.
