studio objects: early art
April 17, 2020
This is part of an occasional series about objects that live in my studio.

That’s an early piece, before I did any public art. The nails keep falling out. Basically, I started off using found objects, so this was a long time ago. That was some stuff I found at the Goodwill, just a sieve, two of them. And nails from a hardware store. It was in Ohio. The idea is the nails face all out on one and then they face in on the other. It’s like an animal.

I still feel good about this early work. I feel like there’s ideas to explore.

The nails are what keeps it together. There’s nothing else keeping it together.

It did have a name. I just don’t remember. It actually went to a show in Cooperstown, New York, a long time ago.
