installing RE:Pete

RE: Pete was installed in December. Here’s a look at how it went:

Pete’s concrete foundation/bench was formed around an existing bronze plaque with a map of Highland Park neighborhood.
Pete arrived in parts painted in Memphis with an industrial paint system. These are his steel “feathers” being installed.
It was thrilling watching a space take shape as the parts were installed.
A double convex stainless steel mirror is installed in a swivel assembly so that it can be manipulated by people.
The mirrors are intended to evoke a peacock feather’s “eye” pattern, and reflect the park and the sculpture.
Pete is almost complete. Here, over 300 stainless steel discs are mounted to the “feathers” to reflect light and evoke a peacock’s patterning.

And here is Pete, complete and illuminated by lighting cast into the concrete foundation.
